With a view to address climate impacts, NBARD has launched programmes in completed watersheds which complement and supplement the efforts village communities. The proposed Climate Proofing project / programmes one of them which will add value to the current initiative and improve resilience to climate variability and with focus on mitigation and adaptation practices to climate related negative situation impacting the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in watershed areas. It will focus on vulnerable communities like small and marginal farmers who are going to be impacted largely by the changes in climate. SHARP has been facilitating two CPP projects each in Dhanvada and Devarampally of Jayashankar Bhpalapally (earstwhile Karimnagar) and Ananatharam of Yadadri Bhongir (earstwhile Nalgonda)
The programme is going to enhance the adaptive capacity of the community in general and farmers in particular. The project looks at resilience of the watersheds much beyond the usual soil and water conservation focused drought proofing measures and is beyond the business-as-usual practice and can be considered as concrete adaptation.
Major achievements
NRM Works
Under the project, Loose boulder Structures (LBS), Rock Filled Dams (RFDs), Farm Ponds (FPs) were constructed with a object to conserve the soil and moisture.
Leaf Colour Chart
these charts are installed in paddy field for which they are supposed to be.
Agri.Tool bank for FPO
With a view to make available all agri implements to watershed farmers, under control of FPO, this activity is proposed.
Recharge of Bore we
To augment the yield of agriculture bore wells, Bore well recharge structures are constructed.
Drip Irrigation
Under better and judicial water management practices, Drip system are distributed to the project beneficiaries.
Bio-fertilizers
As Bio fertilizers contain adequate quantities of N, P, K and several micro nutrients essential for plant growth which will maintain the soil health, crop production is reportedly increased.
Bio-Control Agents
Bio control agents are applied for 25 acres. The total cost incurred towards these units is Rs. 25000.
Deep ploughing
The purpose of deep plouging is to modify the soil water retention characteristics over the long time and ploughing depth normally above 30 cms.
Tank Silt application
The Silt is dug from bed level of nearest tank and is deposited in the lands of farmers. Most of these beneficiary farmers are small and marginal farmers.
Green manure cultivation
Under green maturing crops, daincha is applied into the fields. Daincha seeds are procured from agriculture department on subsidy basis.
Pandal Based Veg Cultivation
To intensify the vegetable cultivation, Pandal based vegetable cultivation is practiced in the project villages. Pandals are supported by stone poles erected in organized way. Creepers are spread over the GI wired mat over the pandal.
Pheromone traps & Egg cards
To balance the population of allied pests and enemy pest at larva and subsequent stage, Egg cards and Pheromone traps are used. Pheromone traps are installed in Cotton crop. Typical pheromone traps are installed for respective type of pests. Egg cards are installed in paddy fields.
Promotion of Millet Plotss
As the CPP area is relatively under moderate rainfall with red murum soil; millets are suited to grow in this area. Millets such as, Korra, and Jowar are promoted.
Mulching demo units
Mulching demo units are installed in the CPP area. Each unit of material approximately covered couple of farmers.
Posters and pamphlet on climate change adaptation
Posters and pamphlets are prepared on typical climate risks and respective adaptations practices.
